Cat Post
Here’s the story about my family feeding strays.
Today the humans slept in. I guess they both lost their jobs again. They seem to do this every 5 or so days. I don’t know why they are so irresponsible but at least they still feed me.
Despite my calls to action (sitting by the door waiting for them to let me out, and mewing in encouragement), we didn’t go out until the sun was high in the sky. The sky was blue and there were lots of birds today. Mom put my harness on and carried me to the backyard where she secured my rope and I was free to wander. They sat at the table and ate while I examined the property line by the back alley and awaited the squirrels, who seemed to come by less frequently than before.
As I looked back at mom and Random Guy, I saw movement behind them. I stared, eyes wide, as Slinky returned from the front yard. He was meowing at the humans. I watched in disbelief as he hopped up onto the picnic table and sat right on my mom’s lap! WTF is this I thought. I stared as this cat got pets from my people as if I wasn’t standing right there in the yard. Random Guy disappeared into the house and brought out a food bowl for Slinky. My food bowl! My food! Wow. I turned away, waiting for the squirrels and considering another escape. I don’t think I have parents anymore. I am an island.
As Slinky ate my food, I saw my mom disappear this time. She returned with my crate. I haven’t been in that thing in a long time. I will not accept being put in there right now. How could she even consider this? Maybe this was all punishment for running away the other night. Are they replacing me with Slinky? Why would they want this chatty, skinny, dirty, hungry vagrant over me!
My mom came over to me to pick me up. I hissed. You won’t take me alive! Slinky came closer too. I hissed at him. “Go away!”. Mom walked me away from Slinky and picked me up. To my surprise, she was taking me inside. She plopped me in the kitchen and took my harness off then ran out the door and they drove off with Slinky in the cage.
Good. They’re getting rid of him. Take him away.
Mom’s perspective is a little different. If you care to see what she thought!
